Dealing with braces can get a little tricky. Most of the people who take up braces in their teens are wearing them for the first time and are already feeling a little awkward with the entire process. Follow your dietary guidelines.

Your orthodontist will give you a strict set of guidelines in terms of what you can have in your diet. No matter what, do not ignore these guidelines. These guidelines help in keeping your teeth realigning process seamless and more effective. If you avoid them and eat outside the planned diet, it can have adverse effect on the teeth alignment that you are trying to fix.

Don’t eat gummy bears.

The thing about gummy bears is that you cannot ignore them, no matter in what part of the world you are in. That said, they can wreak havoc on the alignment of your teeth if you are wearing braces. The gummy bears may get stuck to your braces or your retainer and cause unnecessary trouble. Hence, avoid eating them altogether.

Cut out the soda.

Although the metal used for fabricating braces is of top notch quality, you would not want them to get oxidized in any form. Plus, there are no added health benefits of consuming soda. Hence, it only makes sense to cut it out of your consumption.

Ask about chewing gum.

Chewing gum more or less fall in the same category as gummy bears. Although they can help you fix the occasional bad breath, it would be wise to avoid them for the time being.

Eat fruit slices.

Fruit slices are a great source of essential vitamins and nutrients. Instead of going for fancy foods, go straight for fruit slices.

Brush your teeth.

All the dental hygiene you have at the moment will have to be expanded twice once you have braces. Hence, do not forget to brush your teeth as per the instructions given by your dental expert.

Don’t leave until your braces feel comfortable.

Finally – when you go for your braces fitting, do not leave the place till you are absolutely comfortable with the braces.
